In the jobs hot seat

By BRIDGET COOK

LYNDHURST Secondary College students are now more prepared to step out into the workforce after a program last month.
More than 175 Year 10 students took part in the Beacon Best Practice Interviews program on Wednesday 20 March.
The students got the chance to hone their employment application skills by writing a job application letter, develop a resume and then take part in a mock job interview.
Students had to present themselves in a professional manner and he interviewed by a teacher, older student and representatives from the local community.
Student careers and pathways adviser Sue Pulford said the students gained a lot from the experience.
“Students really appreciated the opportunity to present for a practice interview and gained tremendous experience in terms of knowing how to dress appropriately, meet interview panel members, think on their feet while deciding how best to answer a question,” she said.
“Feedback from the interview panel members was very positive and each student has completed their own self-evaluation in reflecting on their participation in the program.
“We are confident that our Year 10 students are now better prepared for when they present for an interview in the real world.”
Ms Pulford said she was proud of how the students conducted themselves.
“We were very pleased with the positive and enthusiastic manner in which students presented for their interviews last week,” she said.
“They prepared thoroughly beforehand, their manners were excellent and the standard of dress on the day was very, very good.
“Overall our students were very impressive and our outside panel members were very complimentary of the students, our teachers and the program.”
