CRANBOURNE apprentice Dayne Ciborowski has proved he is one of the country’s best apprentices.
The 20-year-old apprentice recently won the gold medal at the 2012 WorldSkills Australia national competition in the auto body repair division.
The competition, hailed as the “ultimate skills challenge”, saw 500 of the country’s best trainees and apprentices come together in Sydney to compete over three days in one of the 50 trade or skills categories.
Mr Ciborowski, who is a fourth year apprentice at his father’s Cranbourne business S&M Panels, said the competition was intense.
“We had to do the equivalent to five or six days work in the allocated 22 hours,” he said.
“We had to test skills including welding and panel repairing.
“It tested everything, both mentally and physically.”
Mr Ciborowski said he was thrilled to win.
“I didn’t think I had a chance, so it was great to get the win,” he said.
Mr Ciborowski will now head to Germany in July next year to compete for the country at the 2013 WorldSkills international competition.
