CHARACTERS removed from society are set to take to the stage in Cranbourne as part of the award-winning Australian play Cosi.
BATS Theatre Company, in conjunction with Page to Stage, will present the production at the Cranbourne Community Theatre from tomorrow as part of the Casey Winter Arts Program.
Classed as a comedy, Cosi is based on the story of lead character Lewis – a university student who takes on the task of directing Mozart’s Cosi Fan Tutte in the local mental institution’s burnt-out theatre.
The story introduces the audience to a cast of characters, all of whom have been removed from society for their own reasons.
This year, BATS has chosen to work with Page to Stage – a local company specialising in presenting VCE texts to students across Victoria.
The book is on the 2012 VCE English book list, however, the play contains coarse language and adult themes and is recommended for people over the age of 15.
Local primary school teacher, Sharon Maine, is a life member of BATS and is the director of Cosi. Cranbourne resident Richard Green has the role of Roy, who is the inmate who has always dreamt of performing Cosi Fan Tutte and won’t take no for an answer.
The play will be performed tomorrow and Saturday at 8pm and at the same time on Friday 27 and Saturday 28 July at the Cranbourne Community Theatre, Brunt Street, Cranbourne.
There will also be a show on Sunday 29 July at 2pm.
Tickets cost $20 or $18 for concession.
