Win for walkers

WALKERS and cyclists will be among those to benefit from a plan to improve path and trail networks throughout the City of Casey.
The council has developed a Draft Paths and Trails Strategy that aims to improve the functionality of the paths and trails within the area.
Resident feedback is currently being sought to ensure the plan addresses existing gaps in the network so that more residents will choose to use it.
City of Casey Mayor Shar Balmes said the plan aimed to improve the health and wellbeing of Casey residents.
“There is currently a low rate of residents engaging in active transport such as walking or cycling, and a high reliance and dependence on motor vehicles,” Cr Balmes said.
“We need to encourage and create opportunities for our community to use more active transport for short trips like going to and from school.”
It is also hoped that improving the functionality of the network will reduce congestion and the environmental impact on residents.
Residents have until Friday 4 November to provide feedback on the strategy that can be downloaded from www.casey.vic. gov.au/currentconsultations or picked up from City of Casey Customer Service Centres.
