AMPUTEE golfers have the chance to get photographed with the world’s most famous golfing trophy – the Presidents Cup – when it visited the Sandhurst Golf Club last month.
The visit on Thursday 29 September coincided with the announcement of the Sandhurst Limbs 4 Life Golf Tournament, which will take place on Friday 18 November during the Presidents Cup.
In April 2009, Limbs 4 Life launched the first amputee golf coaching clinic with the support of Sandhurst golf professional Christian Hamilton and the PGA Learning Centre.
The purpose of the clinics is to provide amputees, and those born without particular limbs, with the tools required to become involved with golf and have the confidence to participate.
The Limbs 4 Life golf clinics are run on a regular monthly timetable, with many of the participants travelling long distances to take part.
The clinics will be complemented by the Sandhurst Limbs 4 Life Golf Tournament.
Mr Hamilton said the visit by the Presidents Cup was a historic occasion.
β€œThe visit by the Presidents Cup to Sandhurst provided a historic occasion for Sandhurst with the golf course being designed by Peter Thomson, Australia’s most decorated golfer, Captain of the International Team in 1998 when the President’s Cup was played at Royal Melbourne Golf Club in Melbourne,” he said.
Registration for the Limbs 4 Life Golf Tournament will kick start at 3pm, with a 3.30pm shotgun start.
Cost is $55 per player, which includes nine holes, a cart and barbecue dinner.
