Cup runneth over

By Danielle Galvin
IT’S either a charming coincidence or a touching family tradition that three generations of one Cranbourne East family have wed on Caulfield Cup Day.
Since 1939, Caulfield Cup Day has been all about wedding mania for the Angee family.
It’s not unheard of that a groom-to-be plans his wedding day around the AFL grand final but the unlikely coincidence for the Angee family is that three generations have wed on October 15, Melbourne Racing Club’s prime race day.
The parents of the groom, Jen and David, will take some of the spotlight on Saturday celebrating 42 years of marriage when their youngest son Brian marries his long-time partner Danielle.
The happy couple will wed at the Amberlee reception room in Cranbourne.
It’s exactly 72 years to the day when Jen’s parents Jack and Kathleen got married at St Dominic’s Church in East Melbourne.
The unlikely coincidence was an unusual, charming mistake.
“Brian had no idea. He wanted to make sure the grand final was well and truly gone. He’s addicted to footy. He’s a poor old Richmond fan!” Mrs Angee, the mother of the groom said.
The wedding will be a small family affair and the good thing about the family fluke is that no one has an excuse to forget any wedding anniversary.
“My daughter is coming down from Queensland and my other son is in the wedding party,” she said.
Surely the wedding tradition will continue for the next generation in the Angee family, perhaps once again by coincidence.
