THE City of Casey’s Fine Art Expo has been hailed a picture perfect success.
The expo, which was held over the weekend of the 2 and 3 July, showcased the works of 20 established and emerging local artists and marked official opening the Casey Winter Arts Program.
Almost 1000 people attended the expo to view more than 200 works on display.
Calvin Bell of Provenance Artists Studios in Berwick Springs worked closely with the council to host and curate the exhibition.
Speaking at the opening of the expo, City of Casey mayor Shar Balmes praised the event as an important showcase for local talent.
“This is the first time the City of Casey has offered the opportunity for local artists to host their own exhibition in the council chamber,” she said.
“Casey is home to a significant number of extremely talented artists whose works are not often able to be viewed locally and opportunities like this are a step towards changing that.”
The expo was made possible through the Casey Arts Participation Initiative (CAPI), a three-year project funded by VicHealth to increase social connection and wellbeing through participation in the arts.
Casey’s Winter Arts Program includes a line-up of more than 60 council-run and community arts events and activities.
This year’s program features an array offree or affordable music, theatre, children’s activities, dance and visual arts that people of all ages and abilities will enjoy.
