Education makes cents

CRANBOURNE Community House has been given a $15,000 boost from the State Government to upgrade its education program for adults.
Adult Education manager Cherie Hamling said the grant was wonderful for the organisation.
The money will be used to upgrade the centre’s marketing strategy and build awareness around the centre’s education opportunities for adults and youths.
“We’re looking to grow our adult education business and possibly forming partnerships with other centres,” Ms Hamling said.
“When people disengage from school early, they don’t realise that there are education alternatives available.”
The community house is a registered training organisation and offers two certificates in initial literacy and numeracy for adults who didn’t complete their education, as well as a general certificate of education and a program for youths including life skills and self- esteem building.
The State Government will give a total of $4.2 million to 115 local organisations across Victoria.
South-Eastern Metropolitan Region MP Inga Peulich said the funds will help the state grow into a “knowledge-based economy”.
The grant is provided through the State Government’s Adult, Community and Further Education (ACFE) Board Capacity and Innovation Fund 2011.
