CASEY businesses have shown a flood of support for a Hampton Park family whose home and belongings were destroyed in February’s floods.
About 10 local businesses have donated items and their time to help rebuild the Robjant Street unit and get Pinki and Anurag Tehlan back on their feet.
Member of the Hampton Park Community Renewal committee Michele Halsall, who has been helping Hampton Park families with the clean-up efforts in the wake of the deluge, organised all the donations.
“The family’s Strata Title Insurance was cancelled not long before the floods,” she said.
“As a unit owner myself, I know how hard it is to get strata insurance.
“The family had recently also saved up and used a lot of their money to visit their parents in India.”
Ms Halsall said she was overwhelmed with the support from local businesses.
“I can’t thank them all enough,” she said.
“All I had to was approach them and they were all willing to do what they could.
“Just shows real community spirit, and shows that it is still alive.”
Ms Halsall said rebuilding works had started on the home, and the family should be back in the coming months.
Above All Gas Services, Cranbourne, fixed and donated parts for the heater, Godfreys Cranbourne donated a vacuum and cleaning supplies, Middendorp Electric, Narre Warren, donated electric supplies and Hallam electrician Manuel Abajas, from Australian Electrical Solar Group donated his time.
Gyprock Trade, Hallam, donated plaster supplies and A&G Lining, Hallam, donated plasters to do the work, Reece Plumbing, Narre Warren donated bathroom vanity and Paint Place, Cranbourne, painted the home free of charge.
Ms Halsall said she had now started a support group for local flood victims, to assist people with issues including insurance claims.
Anyone seeking help from the support group can contact Ms Halsall at the Hampton Park Community Renewal office on 8787 5570.
