THE City of Casey has taken a step in a modern direction by starting to use cutting-edge technology to assess the condition of footpaths across the municipality.
The council has engaged specialist contractor PureData to inspect all of Casey’s paths in coming months.
The inspection will be conducted by an operator-driven quad bike equipped with video cameras, GPS equipment and an onboard computer.
The purpose of the survey is to identify footpath defects for the council’s footpath maintenance program and to determine the overall condition of the network in order to plan future upgrades.
City of Casey manager engineering and asset management David Richardson said the survey would start in the coming days and continue through May and June throughout the municipality.
“This approach will save time and money in inspecting the approximately 1818 kilometres of local paths, leaving greater resources to be devoted to upgrades and repairs,” Mr Richardson said.
