Artistic talents tapped and rewarded

THE City if Casey celebrated the artistic talents of local youths during National Youth Week, with the announcement of the winners of 10th annual Casey Creations Youth Arts Competition.
More than 260 entries were received from young people across several grades in the two categories – visual art and photography.
City of Casey mayor Shar Balmes presented the 36 award winners with their prizes at an awards ceremony on Wednesday 6 April.
“After 10 years, there is absolutely no doubt about the incredible artistic talents and abilities of our young people,” Cr Balmes said.
In the visual art category, Hong Xu won the Grade 5 to 6 section, Nicole Koltai won the Year 7 to 9 section and Madeleine Kelly won the Year 10 to 12 section.
Bryce Gibson took out the Grade 5 to 6 section in the photography category, Bridget Zarb the Year 7 to 9 and Amy Crawley the Year 10 to 12.
“Every year more and more talented young photographers and visual artists have gotten involved and put their wonderful works on display in this competition.”
Also recognised at the awards ceremony was a diverse range of performing arts talent with performances by the Casey Grammar Jazz Ensemble, Kick Back Kids hip hop dance crew and the Young Australian Broadway Chorus.
National Youth Week is the largest celebration of young people in Australia and aims to allow young people to showcase their talents, share ideas and have fun while celebrating the contribution young people make to the community.
