Driven out

By Bridget Cook
A CRANBOURNE family has been forced to move from their home after ongoing criminal damage to their property.
And since they have relocated from the Thompson Road home, the house was destroyed by fire after a burning object was thrown through a window on the weekend.
Casey Criminal Investigation Unit (CIU) Acting Detective Sergeant Marc Newton said the harassment began in February when the home was first criminally damaged.
After the first incident, the family moved from the home.
Act Det Sgt Newton said there were then three more cases of criminal damage at the home before the house was gutted by fire on 19 March.
“This included some spraypainting of the house, property damage inside the house, windows smashed and attempted arson,” he said.
On 16 March a wheelie bin was set alight at the property, and a burning object thrown into the home. This only caused minor damage.
Three days later, on 19 March, at 4 am another burning object was thrown through a window and caused extensive damage to the home.
The CFA was called to the scene.
Act Det Sgt Newton said about $135,000 worth of damage was caused.
Police are now seeking witnesses to the numerous attacks.
He said police were unsure whether the attacks were aimed at the owners, the home or even the previous owners.
“We are appealing for witnesses who may have information or knowledge of the events leading up to the fire and actual fire itself,” he said.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Act Det Sgt Newton at the Casey CIU on 9705 3122 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
