Diversity unites school group

WITH more than 30 different cultural backgrounds represented at Lynbrook Primary School, the school had every reason to celebrate Harmony Day in style this week.
The school kicked off Monday’s celebrations with a morning assembly, which included performances by professional Chinese fan dancer Cindy and students who performed their cultural dances.
The school choir performed a song about unity before leading the 830 students into the National Anthem.
Principal Russell Gascoigne presented the ‘community globe’ to the students that featured photos of Lynbrook families, before concluding the day with the students singing and signing in AUSLAN the school song.
The children and teachers dressed up in their cultural dress or orange – the colour of harmony – on the day.
Lynbrook Primary School prep co-ordinator Rebekah Booth said the school celebrated Harmony Day every year to celebrate the vast array of cultures that make up the school community.
“The students take away an appreciation and a growing understanding of how people are around the world and how they are the same,” she said.
“They learn about other cultures through stories, song and dance.”
