POLICE have appealed for the driver involved in a hit-and-run incident to surrender to police before he or she is tracked down.
A 15-year-old girl was struck by a car travelling south on the South Gippsland Highway as she walked across a marked pedestrian crossing at the intersection of Thompsons Road before 9pm on 19 November.
The driver of the blue 1980s model Holden Commodore failed to stop and the girl was taken to The Alfred hospital with serious head and back injuries.
Acting Sergeant Brad Cummins from Narre Warren police said a red light camera was activated at the intersection. “We are appealing for the driver and/or owner of the vehicle to come forward and contact police as it is only a matter of time before we catch up with you,” he said. Anyone with information can contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
