The money was raised as part of the VCAL fundraising unit of work, where students selected Guide Dogs Victoria as their charity.
The students wanted to raise $2000 in a three week period.
They didn’t quite make their target, but raised more than $1600 through a number of fundraising activities, including selling fairy floss to local primary schools, selecting teachers to get their legs waxed, a school barbecue, minute to win it challenge and sending letters asking local businesses for support.
The students also got the chance to visit the Guide Dogs Victoria in Kew and were able to witness how the guide dogs were trained and the requirements they must pass.
VCAL curriculum co-ordinator Scott Rumble said seeing the new group of guide dog puppies probably stole the show for most.
Mr Rumble said a cheque presentation was held on Monday, where students handed over the cheque to a representative of Guide Dogs Victoria.
“Students got a lot out of this as it made them aware of how the money they are raising can help this great cause,” Mr Rumble said.
“All students and teachers involved should be commended for their hard work and great achievement.”
