THIS year’s Casey Idol winner Pricilla Leveque will be taking centre stage again when she sings the national anthem at the Cranbourne Cup.
The 24-year-old Hampton Park singer said she jumped at the chance of singing at the event after having won the Casey Idol crown in August.
She sang a version of Whitney Houston’s I Have Nothing in front of a crowd of more than 300, but is expected to sing Advance Australia Fair to more than 10,000 people at the Cup.
“That’s more than I have ever sung in front of before,” Leveque said. “But I am really looking forward to it.”
To prepare herself for each performance, Leveque said she zones out. “I do get nervous but I reassure myself everything will be OK- everything will go smoothly,” she said. “I just want to get out there and give it my all.”
Leveque, who has been singing for 12 years, said she would love to sing for a living.
“Everyone hopes to be famous. I’d like to crack into the music industry and make it my full time career,” she told the News in September.
That dream might be drawing closer. When she won the open age section and the best vocal performance award at the Casey Idol competition, she also won a dull-day recording and song production session at Audio Visual Media’s Cranbourne North recording studio and mobile phone.
She has been discussing future singing opportunities with council and has signed up to entertain at Hampton Park’s Carols By Candlelight.
