Police, family plea for help

POLICE are still searching for clues to a “brutal” attack in Cranbourne North last month that led to the death of 24-year-old Hampton Park man Scott Shaw.
Police and SES crew yesterday conducted a line search at the site of the assault on the corner of the South Gippsland Highway and Huon Park Road, and police have again put the call out to any witnesses who may have information.
Detective Senior Sergeant Peter Harrington from the Homicide Squad said police were looking for five to eight males they believed got out of a car armed with weapons and pulled up alongside the victim’s blue Holden Commodore sedan when the attack occurred about 9.45pm on 12 September.
Scott Shaw had severe head injuries and died at The Alfred hospital on 18 September.
Police arrested three youths a short time after the incident but later released them.
“We’re working through different lines of inquiry. We’re hopeful that someone might have seen something and may be able to assist us,” Det Sen Sgt Harrington said.
Scott’s mother Debra Shaw issued a statement yesterday. “We’d like to thank everyone who assisted Scott. From the people at the scene, to the ambulance and hospital staff. Everyone has been fantastic and helped us through this ordeal,” she said.
“We loved Scott very much and will miss him dearly. We hope that anyone with information about what happened to Scott will come forward and tell the police.”
Anyone with information can contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
