THE popular Tooradin Market will return to its foreshore home this month under a new management.
After running the market for the past 10 years, the now defunct Tooradin Progress Association has handed it over to the Balla Balla Lions Club, who will now stage the market 12 months of the year.
Balla Balla Lions Club president Colin Butler said having personally started the Sunday market 10 years ago as a member of the Progress Association, it was an exciting time to take over such a recognised community event with the Lions Club.
“It brings the community together to meet and greet,” Mr Butler said.
“The market promotes Tooradin as a great place to visit; it brings in people who may well shop at our traders businesses and promotes the foreshore, surrounding area and the Fisherman’s Cottage.”
Mr Butler said as the proceeds from the market go to local community groups, the Lions Club is hoping to expand the market to provide the local community with much-needed financial support into the future.
“We hope to further develop the number of stallholders and streamline the running of it,” he said.
This first market under new management will be held on Sunday 20 September from 8am to 2pm on the Island Tooradin foreshore, corner of South Gippsland Highway and Tooradin Station Road, Tooradin. Bookings can be made through Gary Birch on 0418 336 395. For further information contact Colin Butler on 0438 331 112.
