Coastal choir on course

By Bridget Brady
THERE is “a buzz in the Bight” according to members of the first coastal village choir.
The Coastal Community Choir started about three months ago and rehearses weekly in Blind Bight.
New Blind Bight Community Centre co-ordinator and Cannons Creek resident Katarina Dakic came up with the idea to start a choir and said she was surprised and delighted with the response.
Mrs Dakic, who has a musical background, said people were excited a choir had started in the coastal villages. “I thought it would be great to bring music to the village. I thought it would be a wonderful thing. It is nice to be able to come together,” she said.
To add more musical excitement to the coastal villages, Mrs Dakic said the choir was planning the first Christmas carols event in Blind Bight to be held at the Blind Bight foreshore.
“I don’t think anyone ever endeavoured to do anything like this before. I’m passionate about music. It’s good fun.”
Members of the choir are looking for sponsorship as they wanted to have T-shirts printed before the Christmas carols event on 18 December. There are about 12 members of the choir and Mrs Dakic said more people of all ages were welcome.
The choir rehearses on Wednesday nights at the Blind Bight Community Centre from 7pm to 8.30pm. Cost is $2 per week. For information call 5998 7014.
