What’s cooking?

HAMPTON Park Secondary College students can cook up a storm in their new commercial kitchen which opened this month.
Holt MP Anthony Byrne opened the refurbished kitchen, that includes about 10 commercial stoves, canopies, a deep fryer and stainless steel benches, on 5 August. “With the upgrade of the kitchen to commercial standards students can obtain a Certificate 2 in Hospitality preparing them for future pathways into TAFE, apprenticeships and the hospitality and tourism industry,” Mr Byrne said.
The hospitality course at Hampton Park Secondary College is a very popular curriculum choice for students, with about 100 students using the commercial kitchen each day.
The school received $200,000 for the kitchen upgrades, car park asphalting, landscaping and the painting of 35 classrooms as part of the National School Pride Program.
As part of the program, every Australian school receives up to $200,000, based on the size of the school, for maintenance and minor building works.
