College’s big win from budget

CRANBOURNE Secondary College came up trumps in the State Budget on Tuesday, receiving $7.2 million to refurbish about two thirds of the school.
A new administration and music centre will be built and the library and canteen will be refurbished.
Assistant principal John Jovic said the school would be able to host hospitality VET classes when a commercial kitchen was built as part of the funding.
“This covers an enormous part of the school and is stage two of a three stage master plan,” Mr Jovic said. “We have done a lot of work with the architects since 2005 on this stage and we have been hopeful for the last three years so we’re thrilled that we’ve got the announcement we’ve been waiting for.”
Mr Jovic said works would take about 18 months and he anticipated construction would start about October.
He said the funding would boost the morale within the school community. “It’s not every day that a school gets this type of opportunity.”
A spokesperson for Cranbourne MP Jude Perera said they were ecstatic at the announcement for the school. Courtney Gardens Primary School in Cranbourne received $3million to build a 21st century multipurpose centre.
