Budget blow for station

By Bridget Brady
FUNDING has been committed to the development of Lynbrook Railway Station, but Cranbourne East has missed out again.
As announced in the State Budget on Tuesday, $152.6 million will be used to build four new train stations, which includes Lynbrook.
But an opposition MP says a 10-year promise to fund the construction of Cranbourne East railway station continues to be put back.
South East Metropolitan Region MP Inga Peulich said the State Government had made a “mockery” of Cranbourne residents by promising the station yet failing to deliver it.
“I consider anything less than the full funding of Cranbourne East Railway Station after so many election stunts and promises would be considered a failed State Budget for Casey residents and it has turned out that way,” Ms Peulich said.
“Cranbourne East has been promised for 10 years and it keeps getting put back and back. It should have been fast-tracked as a key infrastructure and public transport project.”’
The major funding announcement for Cranbourne in the budget was the $7.2 million modernisation of Cranbourne Secondary College.
A spokesperson for Cranbourne MP Jude Perera said the budget was focused on taking action in investing in infrastructure and securing jobs.
The spokesperson said social initiatives to support residents “doing it tough” were a highlight in the budget.
