THE call is out for coastal village residents to join the Balla Balla Lions Club.
The club has been active for about three years as a branch club of the Lions Club of Karingal, but needs 20 members to stand as a club in its own right.
Secretary and treasurer of the club, Peter Martin, said there were currently 12 members.
“It’s the first time there has been a Rotary or a Lions club in the area. The more members we get the more work we can do for the area,” Mr Martin said.
“We can still work as a branch club of the Lions Club of Karingal, but we would like to be our own club.”
The Balla Balla Lions Club has been involved in many community projects including running the Australia Day Sunset Cinema, helping at the Tooradin Tractor Pull and helping with sausage sizzles at the Tooradin Sunday markets.
Mr Martin said plans for the future were endless.
“We have achieved so much with a handful of people. The work we do in the community is mind blowing. We need more members. Please come onboard and help us.”
Executive officer for Lions Australia, Rob Oerlemans, said he hoped residents would support the club.
“The advantage of Balla Balla becoming its own club is that it gets direct control over its own affairs,” Mr Oerlemans said.
Residents of Pearcedale, Tooradin, Blind Bight, Warneet and Cannons Creek are encouraged to join the club.
