Cranny loses a close one

CRANBOURNE bowlers made an outstanding start to their Division-One Pennant match at Glen Waverley before succumbing by four shots in a tight finish.
They entered the break with a 19-shot lead, but Glen Waverley fought back and gradually matched the visitors, except in Lyn Quigg’s rink, and the hosts came up trumps.
Quigg’s rink, which won by five shots, was the only winner.
Scores: Glen Waverley 98 d Cranbourne 94. L. Quigg 24-19; B. Gay 27-27; R. Travica 21-22; P. Elgar 22-30.
Cranbourne (2) finally found top form to completely out-bowl Waverley Golf for a 31-shot victory.
The side produced an excellent performance to win all rinks and gain full points.
The big winner was Glen Imeson’s rink, with a 13-shot margin.
Scores: Cranbourne 101 d Waverley Golf 70. G. Imeson 29-16; N. Fell 26-20; A. Mickle 26-15; J. Pentreath 20-19.
Cranbourne (3) travelled to Bentleigh, but could not overcome the local side and was beaten by 11 shots.
Skip Ken Hocking had his team firing in an 11-shot win, while Mike Noa’s rink almost snatched victory before falling one-shot short.
Scores: Bentleigh 100 d Cranbourne 89. M. Boltong 15-31; M. Noa 25-26; W. Ballard 19-24; Ken Hocking 30-19.
Cranbourne (4) overran Dandenong RSL-Recreation over the final ends to win comfortably by 10 shots.
Cranbourne won two rinks well, but dropped the other two, despite finishing strongly.
Allan Dennis’ rink scored an 11-shot triumph.
Scores: Cranbourne 104 d Dandenong RSL/Recreation 94. I. Badger 21-24; R. Sorensen 20-25; A. Dennis 31-20; R. Roscoe 32-25.
Cranbourne (5) showed it would be a strong team in its section with another big win –this time by 57.
Cranbourne won all rinks and had big wins on three of those, with skip Phil Bibby winning by 31.
Scores: Cranbourne 120 d Dandenong City 63. K. Davies 31-18; J. MacInnes 30-19; P. Bibby 41-10; S. Venville 18-16.
Cranbourne (6) hosted Noble Park in an important match and gave a very consistent performance to win by 24 shots.
The match was competitive until the final ends when Cranbourne drew away, with evergreen skip Gerry Winters the big winner by nine.
Scores: Cranbourne 104 d Noble Park 80. J. Hanks 25-14; G. Winters 30-21; T. Van Schalm 23-21; J. Potts 26-24.
Cranbourne (1) hit top form against top side Keysborough in Ladies’ Pennant to record a 42-shot win.
Cranbourne had superb wins on two rinks, those of Leila Kid and Shirley Venville, with margins of 11 and 17 shots respectively.
Scores: Cranbourne 110 d Keysborough 68. L. Whalley 25-13; S. Venville 29-12; L. Kidd 30-19; K. Dudink 26-24.
Cranbourne (2) found the Mentone side a difficult opponent on its home greens and lost by seven shots.
Both sides won two rinks, with Erika Woodman’s rink the big winner by 11 shots.
Scores: Mentone 97 d Cranbourne 90. I. Smith 23-21; T. Lennon 14-27; E. Woodman 31-20; M. Williams 22-29.
Cranbourne (3) was competitive on two rinks, but Noble Park ultimately out-bowled it to win by 30 shots.
Scores: Noble Park 116 d Cranbourne 86. R. Van Soest 17-36; K. Davies 28-25; C. Rose 18-29; O. Stanley 23-26.
Cranbourne broke through for its first win of the Ladies’ Saturday Pennant season when it defeated Burden Park by 38 shots.
Pat Boltong’s and Mary Anne Allen’s teams were the stars of the day, with respective margins of 13 and 25.
Scores: Cranbourne 68 d Burden Park 30.
