Staff at Nigel’s Animal Rescue in Devon Meadows have built an enclosure for three-metre-long Lurch and have asked interested artists to volunteer their time to paint the corrugated iron wall in the pen where his new home will be.
Lurch, a lace monitor that is estimated to be about 20 years old, was rescued from Cranbourne South in March last year when he was found roaming the streets. He has lived at the rescue centre ever since.
Sharon Williamson, from Nigel’s Animal Rescue, said she would like to see an Australian theme created in the mural.
“He (Lurch) has only been in asmall temporary enclosure until we could afford to get something nice and new set up for him,” Mrs Williamon said. “This is a bigger and better enclosure.”
Mrs Williamson said Lurch’s new home would include plenty of plants, rockery and a pond.
She said she would provide the paint for the artist who wanted to paint the wall.
“We are just looking for anyone who is willing and has got the skills.”
Anyone interested in painting the wall for Lurch’s new enclosure can contact Nigel Williamson on 0427 533 083.
