Millions all set to go out on a limb

FLINDERS MP Greg Hunt is urging Casey residents to get involved in Australia’s biggest community tree-planting event – National Tree Day.
National Tree Day will sprout into action this Sunday, with a Schools Tree Day tomorrow (Friday).
Since its inception in 1996, more than 1.8 million volunteers have planted nearly 12 million native trees at over 20,000 locations Australia-wide.
At 1pm on Friday a planting group will meet at the entrance to the Botanic Ridge Estate in Cranbourne South.
On Sunday the Friends of Frog Hollow will meet at 10am on the reserve along Belgrave-Hallam Road in Endeavour Hills.
Friends of Eumemmerring Creek will also be planting trees on Sunday, meeting at 9.30am at the end of Butler Street in Eumemmerring.
Essex Reserve in Endeavour Hills will also be given a green thumb next week, with planters assembling at 11am on Sunday 3 August.
A free barbeque will be provided for planters at Frog Hollow Reserve and Eumemmerring Creek.
Mr Hunt said the not-for-profit event aimed to inspire, educate and recruit Australians to care for the environment.
“By taking part in National Tree Day, community members can become actively involved in the care and preservation of our wonderful landscape in the most practical way possible.
“I urge as many people as possible to join me in taking part in National Tree Day. Your contribution will help Planet Ark reach its target of planting one million trees and shrubs,” Mr Hunt said.
If you would like to take part in a tree planting near you, please call the Tree Day hotline on 1300 88 5000 or simply arrive in appropriate attire on the day.
