A WATERSLIDE of the likes of Queensland theme park Wet ‘n’ Wild is coming to Cranbourne.
Casey mayor Kevin Bradford last week went on a two-day whirlwind tour of the Gold Coast and Townsville to look at different types of waterslides.
The council is considering installing a waterslide, or waterslides, at the new Cranbourne Aquatic and Leisure Centre.
Cr Bradford said the new waterslide would not only be the only one in Casey, but the only one of its kind in Australia.
He left early last Thursday, spent two hours at Wet ‘n’ Wild and half an hour at a facility in Runaway Bay which featured a 50-metre pool made of a substance other than concrete before flying to Townsville.
Cr Bradford then looked at what the local council had done along the foreshore, at its public splash park and at the privately funded sports and aquatic training facility used during the Olympic and Commonwealth Games.
“It was extremely eventful seeing new technology that could save council in the vicinity of $600,000,” Cr Bradford said.
“This is an exciting time for the residents of Cranbourne and the wider Casey community.
“We are looking at an active fun water park that could see the first of its kind in Australia in Cranbourne.”
Cr Bradford said he was looking forward to seeing the architect’s final drawings for Cranbourne’s aquatic centre, which would include a 50-metre pool, 25-metre hydrotherapy pool, splash park and auxiliary features such as a water cannon.
He said the design of the waterslide or slides council was considering would stay a secret for the time being.
It will then form part of the design brief for the centre, which will be open to the public in the not-too-distant future.
