A COLOURFUL tennis rebound wall in Cranbourne North has again been targeted by vandals.
A News photographer captured this image on Friday in Waverley Park Drive, where a vandal has attacked those responsible for removing previous graffiti on the wall.
Casey councillor Steve Beardon said he was tired of the defiant attitude of vandals.
“They are costing ratepayers dollars that could be better spent on play equipment and facilities,” he said.
“The rebound wall in Cranbourne North is a regular target for these vandals who need to be held financially responsible.”
Under the City of Casey’s graffiti management program, graffiti is removed from all council assets and from commercial, retail and industrial properties at no cost to the property owner, in most cases within 24 hours of it being reported.
Casey mayor Kevin Bradford said the council was committed to the total eradication and control of graffiti.
“Later on this year I will be holding a mayoral graffiti forum for all mayors around Victoria to come to Casey in the hope of achieving a strong position so we can then lobby the State Government through a combined initiative,” he said.
Cr Bradford said the cost to the community of graffiti removal ran into the thousands of dollars.
“Casey, being a progressive city, leads the way in removing graffiti and we hope other municipalities and the Government follow our lead,” he said.
Cr Beardon pleaded for the public to help identify the tag on the rebound wall to help police find the vandals and help council recoup clean-up costs.
Casey residents can call the council’s graffiti hotline on 1800 VANDAL (1800 826 325).
