CRANBOURNE’S Trios Tabaret has blitzed all other nominated Victorian racing clubs to take out the ClubsVIC Racing Club of the Year title.
The award was presented on Sunday by Minister for Gaming John Pandazopoulos in front of 800 guests at Crown Casino.
Trios Tabaret general manager Brian Asley said the club had been nominated for seven awards and was a finalist in four others, including Best Presented Beer, Best Tabaret Gaming Venue 50 machines or more, Country Club of the Year and Victorian Club of the Year.
Mr Asley said the club’s three main events of the year, the Cranbourne Tricodes, Cranbourne Cup and Cranbourne Pacing Cup, showed they were a successful racing venue.
He said Trios had beaten off the challenges of larger clubs such as Moonee Valley, Pakenham and Caulfield to win the award.
“It is a very prestigious award and we are very pleased to have received it,” he said.
“It’s pretty impressive but it’s also good for the town.”
Mr Asley said the Cranbourne racecourse was unique in Australia as being the only course to have thoroughbreds, greyhounds and harness racing on the same grounds.
Trios includes a 160-seat bistro, full TAB, 75 gaming machines, full sports bar, outdoor dining area and lounge with a 180 degree view of Berwick and surrounds.
Mr Asley said the venue had been inspected before a panel of independent judges chose the winner.
“It was all a big surprise,” Mr Asley said. “We didn’t know we’d won until we got there (Crown Casino).”
