LOCALS in need of a feed but without access to transport can now get to the Cranbourne Community Kitchen for free.
The City of Casey is offering Cranbourne residents experiencing loneliness and isolation a free community bus service to attend the kitchen next Wednesday.
The seventh kitchen to be held in Cranbourne provides free healthy meals to those in the community who may be doing it tough financially or those simply seeking a friendly chat.
Next week’s menu is a three-course roast meal prepared by trainee chefs from William Angliss TAFE.
Councillor Paul Richardson will be recognised at the event for his pledge of $500, which will be used to buy more tables and chairs.
Mayor Colin Butler is also set to attend next week’s kitchen.
Councillor Steve Beardon said he was pleased the council had decided to provide a community bus.
If it proves successful, he will lobby council to make the bus available for all community kitchens in Cranbourne this year.
The Cranbourne Community Kitchen will be held from 5.30pm to 8pm at the Casey Cafe at 65 Berwick-Cranbourne Road.
The bus will pick up passengers for the Community Kitchen at:
• Cranbourne West Shopping Centre at 5.30pm and 6.10pm
• Thompson Park Way Shopping Centre at 5.40pm and 6.20pm
• Cranbourne Railway Station at 5.50pm and 6.30pm, arriving at the Casey Cafe 6.40pm.
The bus will leave Casey Cafe at 6.40pm and 7.20pm to drop off passengers after the dinner at the same locations.
Seats are limited so bookings are essential.
For more information or to make a booking on the free community bus, call Lisa Saint-John from the Casey Cranbourne Community Planning Team on 5996 5488 during business hours.
Bookings must be confirmed by 5pm next Tuesday.
