Sladen work starts

THE duplication of Sladen Street is under way.
Construction began last week on the 2.9-kilometre section between Scott Street and Hall Road in Cranbourne and will include four sets of traffic lights and bicycle lanes.
Cranbourne MP Jude Perera said the $21 million duplication project was an important milestone in improving safety, access and efficiency of the road network in Victoria’s growth corridors.
“The news that the project is taking the next vital step forward will be welcomed by the community which has been very active in campaigning for improvements to safety along Sladen Street,” Mr Perera said.
“With increased growth in this area, more and more motorists will be using this road, emphasising the need for this duplication.”
Mr Perera said more than 23,000 vehicles used Sladen Street each day, many of those heavy vehicles accessing local industries.
He said the bike lanes would provide safe access for children riding their bikes from the Brookland Greens Estate to the schools and the other community facilities along Sladen Street.
Work is expected to be completed by early 2008.
