TWO Pearcedale sisters are setting their sights high after representing Victoria in golf recently.
Tayla and Montana Strauss swept the world of golfing after getting through the District, Zone and Regional Victorian Primary Schools Sports Association (VPSSA) qualifying rounds.
They then played in the State Championships at the Gisbon Golf Course and had to finish in the top four to make the Victorian team.
Tayla, 12, came second and Montana, 10, fourth.
On 15 November the girls represented Victoria in the Australian Championships at a five-day carnival at the Portsea Golf Club in which the team came second.
Brendan McDonough, physical education teacher at the girls’ Pearcedale Primary School, said he was very impressed with their performance.
“Their dad is a really keen golfer,” he said.
“I encouraged them to enter but it was really their dad who has taught them so much.”
Tayla said she started playing gold when she was five, as did her younger sister.
It was a double celebration for Tayla who, last weekend, won a VPSSA Award for sporting excellence at a special award ceremony at the Cultural Centre in Frankston.
Mr McDonough said both girls were fantastic athletes and competed well in the cross-country and athletics as well.
