CASEY’S budding young entertainers put on a show to remember for the final of Casey Idol.
Local solo singers Naomi Horsley and Dwayne D’Cruz took out the open and primary divisions, while local band Black Ribbon wowed the crowd to receive the people’s choice award.
The event was part of the mayor’s Charity Concert at Hampton Park’s Arthur Wren Hall.
Casey mayor Colin Butler said it was a spectacular showcase of Casey’s many talented young people.
“We certainly saw some very talented solo artists, dancers, bands and musicians compete along the way,” he said.
“The competition was not just about showing off the amazing talent we have here in Casey, it was also about raising funds to go back into our community through the Mayoral Charity Fund.”
The Cranbourne Community Information and Support Service and the Casey North Community Information and Support Service were chosen as recipients of the 2007 event’s proceeds.
Show organisers, councillors Janet Halsall and Wayne Smith, were delighted with the event’s success.
“Casey Idol was an exciting showcase of the talent we have right here in our own backyard, and I am sure many of the event’s participants will go onto bigger and better things,” Cr Halsall said.
Cr Smith said the event was well supported by local business and the community, demonstrating the strength of the arts and the wealth of talent in Casey.
Winners
Open: Naomi Horsley, 1, Sonyta Trahar, 2, AJ Iuta, 3.
Primary: Dwayne D’Cruz, 1, Unda Size, 2, Travis and Corey Ernsdoerfer, 3.
