LYNDHURST Secondary College students are about to hit the streets of Casey for the school’s community involvement project.
Casey mayor Colin Butler visited the school last Wednesday to launch the program.
The community project will see students volunteer at local charities and groups of their choice for three consecutive Wednesday afternoons in September. About 100 year 11 students will take part in the program, a joint initiative between the college and the Casey council.
Senior teaching and learning leader Jeff McMillin said the program was a great chance for students to make a positive contribution to their community.
“It’s an opportunity for students to get out of the school and see what their community has to offer,” he said.
Mr McMillin said local primary schools, a traffic school and pet shelters were just some of the places that students would be volunteering.
“The whole idea is to get them out to areas of the community that need a bit of help and a bit of labour,” Mr McMillin said.
