LOCALS are preparing to Cycle Against the Nuclear Cycle to spread the word about clean, renewable energy.
Members of the Westernport Action Group (WAG) from Cranbourne, Hampton Park and the coastal suburbs will join the southern section of the ride, which left Canberra on 17 September and will cross through Hastings, Langwarrin and Frankston before pedalling on to Melbourne.
They will ride for a nuclear-free Australia in the fight against Western Port being labelled as a potential site for a nuclear power plant.
The riders will be visiting the potential nuclear sites and the entire route is on the website.
WAG president Mary Madigan said the group was asking schools, organisations and individuals for support by joining the ride or assisting those riding on their behalf.
A school information kit is available and people can join the ride for part of the way, for an hour, a day or all of the way.
Riders will be welcomed at Hastings next Thursday, 11 October, at 3pm.
There will be a free film night at Hastings Community Hall on Friday 12 October at 7.30pm, and people can join the riders for lunch at midday on Saturday 13 October at the Westernport Hotel in Hastings before riding on to Langwarrin via Tyabb and Somerville.
On Sunday 14 October at 8.30am, the riders will leave Langwarrin to meet the mayor of Frankston at Beauty Park at 10am, then they will all continue on to Melbourne before the ride sets off again to Adelaide.
