IT seems no-one is immune to the wrath of Casey Council parking officers.
Australia Post has been forced to relocate its mail box from the front of Westpac in High Street, Cranbourne, after receiving more than $1000 in parking infringements.
The mail giant temporarily withdrew its box from service while it worked with the council to secure a new site on nearby Lyall Street.
Australia Post state communications manager Janice Mascini said the postal van had copped hefty fines over a three-month period after being forced to pull into a 15-minute parking space on High Street to collect the mail.
Ms Mascini said the council had agreed to provide a mail parking collection zone beside the new box on Lyall Street to allow the van exclusive parking access between 3.15pm and 3.45pm daily.
“We can’t afford to be fined every time we collect the mail,” she said.
“We are happy to work with council to rectify the problem and have relocated just around the corner to accommodate the new mail zone.”
Casey Council acting manager communications Claire Polatidis said although Australia Post provided a vital community service, it was not immune from complying with the law.
“If they install a post box they must ensure there is adequate parking,” she said.
“Council has been meeting with Australia Post since November to solve the problem.
“The post box has been moved 20 metres into Lyall Road and the parking restrictions changed for an Australia Post-only parking zone.”
