THE Cranbourne Chamber of Commerce reflected on the previous year and looked to the year to come at its annual general meeting last week.
City of Casey chief executive Mike Tyler was the guest speaker and jazzed up the function room at the Blue Hills Residences with an audiovisual presentation on where Victoria’s largest municipality was heading at the Wednesday event.
Mr Tyler spoke about the growth at Casey Fields, the new Cranbourne Aquatic and Leisure Centre, access to a Cranbourne Bypass and the possibility of St Kilda Football Club coming to Cranbourne.
Reappointed secretary of the chamber Don Metcalfe said it was good to hear about some positive things happening in Cranbourne to reflect the suburb’s growth.
However, he said it was disappointing locals were still waiting on a proper Cranbourne Bypass and extended railway line to Cranbourne East.
Mr Metcalfe said the chamber was now looking ahead to accommodate the growth of the suburb, expanding business and giving residents want they wanted to make their neighbourhood more livable.
In official proceedings, Derek West was reappointed as chairman, as was Judy Clarkson as vice-chairman and Silvio Marinelli as treasurer.
Toni Van Den Broek and Heather Wallace were reappointed to the board and the chamber welcomed new board members Sally Curtis, who is the new marketing manager at Centro Cranbourne Shopping Centre, and Amberlee Receptions owner Nick Morgione.
Cranbourne Community Plan coordinator Caroline Marinucci also spoke at the event about the plan for the suburb’s growth and brought along with her Casey’s director of planning and development services Peter Fitchett.
