NEARLY 800 more Casey pets are now microchipped, thanks to the recent Microchipping Day for cats and dogs.
The City of Casey applauded residents and local businesses for their support on the day.
Casey administration acting manager Jarrod Doake said the event showed a high level of responsible pet ownership amongst residents.
“There were more than 760 animals micro-chipped on the day, 285 new dogs and 65 new cats registered, and 116 pet registration renewals processed,” he said.
“Micro-chipping is one of the most effective ways to safeguard pets should they become lost.”
Local qualified veterinarians conducted the micro chipping at the reduced rate of $20 per animal.
Mr Doake said pet owners enjoyed a free Rotary Club sausage sizzle, dog wash facilities and pet supply stalls at the event, and many pets were treated to a free dental check up.
The City of Casey thanked sponsor Nature’s Gift and the community groups and 40 local businesses that supported the event.
