POLICE have released an image of the man after money which was to be used for a Hampton Park woman’s operation was stolen.
Victoria Garwood was asleep at home on the night of Friday, 13 April and her husband Peter sleeping on the couch when someone entered their house, stealing a handbag that contained $1500 for an operation.
Also stolen were Mr Garwood’s watch, a digital camera and 35mm camera and a laptop from the spare bedroom.
Mr Garwood fell asleep watching cricket on the television about 8.30pm.
Mrs Garwood was sleeping in the bedroom before she started night shift and had their terrier dog in the room with her.
She got up at 10pm but could not find her handbag, which she had left in the lounge room.
She had only taken the money out of the bank that day in preparation for surgery this week.
The man police want to speak to was identified to police by a neighbour, who reported someone in his backyard about 9.30pm on the same night.
The man was drunk or pretending to be drunk and was holding a six pack of bourbon and Coke, with one in his hand.
The neighbour woke up after he heard a wire door open and sensor light come on and confronted the man, who said he was looking for a friend’s place in Sandown Park.
The man was described as about 164 centimetres, 27 years old, Caucasian, skinny, with a fair complexion with brown straight hair and dark brown clothing.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Senior Constable Ollie Gaspari at Cranbourne CIU on 5991 0661.
