A CRANBOURNE mother says young vandals are destroying her local park, breaking tree branches, attacking playground equipment and leaving broken glass strewn throughout the reserve.
Lauren McKay said kids as young as seven years old regularly used the park on McGuigan Drive as a hangout and claimed the reserve was also a hotspot for weekend parties.
Ms McKay said she would no longer allow her twoyearold daughter Teyalee to play in the park after shattered glass on a slide gave her serious cuts to her hands.
“It is a really nice park that is being ruined by these kids,” Ms McKay said.
“My daughter was playing on the slide and came off crying because she had glass stuck all through her hands.
“It’s not safe to take kids there any more.
“I won’t take her again because I am sick of picking up broken glass.”
Ms McKay said she often witnessed the attacks on the park as her property overlooked the reserve.
She said her partner had confronted the kids responsible for breaking tree branches and was told they had nothing better to do.
“Why aren’t their parents taking responsibility for their kids?” Ms McKay said.
“There are parties at the playground every weekend. We hear motorbikes and the sound of smashing glass at night.
“They have burnt the slide and pushed the swings around so you can’t use them.
“We’ve called the police a few times but it doesn’t seem to stop them,” she said.
Ms McKay called on council to “fix up” the besieged park for families to again enjoy.
“Council need to do something,” she said.
“I just want the park cleaned up and made safe so I can take my daughter back.”
Casey Council failed to respond to the News by deadline.
