CRANBOURNE Police have rewarded cyclists for wearing their helmets.
Hampton Park girl Jasmine Sadler won a $300 bike shop voucher for doing the right thing while riding her bike.
Police recently conducted a four-day operation in and around Cranbourne looking for people wearing or not wearing their helmets.
Senior Constable Brett Owen, Cranbourne Police youth resource officer, said police spoke to 259 people during the operation.
He said out of those people, 89 were entered in the draw to win bicycle prizes for wearing their helmets, while 54 offences were detected.
Eight of the 12 prize winners scored bike accessories packs, one person won a $100 bike shop voucher, while two people won $50 bike shop vouchers.
All vouchers were donated by the City of Casey.
“The draw was a great opportunity whereby police could reward those cyclists who do the right thing and wear a helmet,” Sen Const Owen said.
He said Cranbourne police would continue to enforce the bicycle helmet laws and promote safe cycling.
