TWO contrasting exhibitions – delicate ceramics and landscape paintings – will take pride of place in Casey.
The celebrated works of art are on display until the end of April at the Civic Centre Art Space in Narre Warren.
Carrum artist Tania Richards presents the first exhibition, called Waiting for Rain, a set of striking oil paintings of outback landscapes from panoramic photographs taken during her travels around Australia.
A self taught artist, Ms Richards is renowned for her use of bold colour and abstraction.
In the exhibition, Tania Richards portrays the hidden strengths and endurance of a landscape and its people dealing with drought.
“Camping and hiking through national parks, enjoying the scenic beauty and vibrant colours of nature inspires me to paint,” Ms Richards said.
In stark contrast is Minutia, an exhibition of delicate, functional ceramic wares by Tecoma artist Anne-Maria Plevier.
Meaning ‘small detail’, the exhibition features 23 hand-thrown and decorated pieces including teapots, platters, jugs, tiny dishes and tea bowls.
Ms Plevier achieves a contemplative and peaceful effect with her works by combining delicate images of ferns and leaves, with subtle green and blue glazes.
Ms Plevier, who has been making ceramics since 1985, has won the Gold Coast Ceramic Art Award, the 19th National Craft Acquisition Award and exhibited her work throughout Australia.
