THE State Government will inject $500,000 into Cranbourne to pay for improved public services.
Minister for Victorian Communities John Thwaites last week met with Cranbourne MP Jude Perera, Casey Council and residents to discuss the needs of the city’s fastest growing area.
The tour followed calls from Mr Perera to see first hand the problems of physical and social isolation facing locals.
“The City of Casey has said the socio-economic indicators suggest that this is a stressed community,” he said.
“There is strong support in Cranbourne for the renewal of our community.
“The next step is a proper community planning process.”
Mr Perera said Casey Council had already brought together local, state, and non-government agencies to discuss and identify common issues for the future of the community.
“Cranbourne residents will now get involved and help identify what services need improving and the best ways to do this.
“Focus groups and community meetings held next year will give residents a chance to share their thoughts and ideas with the City of Casey,” he said.
Mr Thwaites said it was vital to address community needs now to ensure residents have access to essential services in the future.
“The $1.2 million Community Plan has been modelled on the successful Doveton Neighbourhood Renewal initiative,” he said.
“Neighbourhood Renewal is a whole-of-government initiative, which encourages local people to participate in strengthening and regenerating their community.”
Mr Thwaites said the project would promote new partnerships and opportunities at a local level.
“We support projects that bring together communities and draw on their enthusiasm and ideas.”
