MIXED media and ceramic creations feature in the two latest exhibitions at the City of Casey Civic Art Space in Narre Warren.
The work, entitled ‘All Woman’ and ‘Floral and Felines’, will be on show at the Magid Drive centre until 30 October.
All Woman is an exhibition of abstract mixed media works by Narre Warren artist Michala-Jane Hitchcock.
Ms Hitchcock described her works as “an exhibition of self expression of her inner feelings and concerns for the environment, as well as my passions in life”.
Currently completing her final year of a Fine Arts Degree, this is Ms Hitchcock’s first exhibition.
Her love of textiles and art and her passion for the environment and recycling come together in her stunning visual creations.
The material used in her art ranges from household paints, nail polish, glass paints, tissue paper, string, bits of nature, newspaper, plastics bottles, polyfiller and buttons.
Alongside the All Woman exhibition is Floral and Felines, a collection of hand-painted ceramic wares by Berwick artist Danielle Radivo.
Ms Radivo established her own business and home studio, Denny Art, in 1999, and her latest exhibition features decorative and functional ceramic wares, which are painted individually with themes such as cats and floral motifs.
“The inspiration for painting cats on my ceramic pieces comes from observing these felines in their daily activities. Cat lovers are often amused by the humour in these pieces,” Ms Ravido said.
Ms Radivo is also exhibiting her floral collection, which is best represented by her black and white graffito roses, a hallmark of her ceramic work.
The City of Casey is also putting out the last call for artists from Melbourne’s south east to exhibit in the Civic Centre Art Space as part of its 2007 exhibition program.
Casey arts and leisure manager Robyn Bowen said the art space attracted about 300 visitors a day to new exhibitions and provided a free venue for regional artists to exhibit their latest collections.
Visual artists specialising in a range of media such as ceramics, glass, sculpture, textiles, painting, photography and printmaking are encouraged to apply.
Applications close on Friday, 22 September 2006.
Details and conditions are available from the City of Casey’s arts project officer, Rebecca Christensen Page, on 9705 5200 or from www.casey.vic.gov.au/arts
