A COUPLE of Cranbourne mums have done their part for cancer research.
Kaz Saddington and Anna Renfrey decided to help the fight against cancer by holding a Biggest Morning Tea at their children’s school Cranbourne Park Primary School.
About 50 parents and children turned out last Thursday to feast on tea, hot chocolate, cakes and buns and raised $175 for the Cancer Council of Victoria.
Ms Saddington said the day had gone well, with the whole community rallying around the event.
Cranbourne Cycles donated a tricycle for the raffle and local stores donated food and drink as well as other raffle prizes.
Children from the school also donated toys for the raffle.
Ms Renfrey had planned to hold the event at her house but it became clear the space was not going to hold everyone so she enlisted her friend’s help to run it at the school.
Ms Saddington said everyone was affected by cancer in some way and so it was an important cause.
“My reasons for doing it were that I lost my mum and dad quite a few years ago to cancer,” she said.
She said she also dedicated her fundraising efforts to family friend Matthew Phillips, 17, who had leukaemia and is now in remission.
Ms Saddington thanked everyone for helping out, especially the school and staff for allowing the event to be run at the school.
“The amount of people that were willing to offer to help was amazing. It was great,” she said.
Other stores that donated goods included local Bakers Delight stores, Safeway, Donut King, Officeworks, Simon’s Discounts, Zac’s Bakehouse, Rosa’s Bakery, Hot Daily Bread, Cranbourne Market and Anne Crichton from Communities for Children.
