SALLY Wynne is a proven performer on the race track and has now transferred her winning style to help produce a calendar to aid the National Jockeys Trust.
Sally, nicknamed ‘Super Sal’ among racing folk, decided to float the idea after talking to a Racing Victoria official about a similar project in New Zealand.
“I’d often thought about it but it was on Cranbourne Cup day last year (2004) that I really decided,” she said.
“Some of the New Zealand girls had done a nude calendar and it went over pretty well.
“I didn’t think I wanted to go that far, but a Sports Illustrated type of calendar was okay and there was plenty of interest.”
Sally said the original idea was to have an all-girls production but it was decided that some of the boys would also disrobe to create wider appeal.
Radio station Sport 927 has become a major sponsor of the project with the Victorian Jockeys Association and once costs are covered, all proceeds from sales will go to the National Jockeys Trust to assist injured riders and their families.
There has been an initial print run of 5000 and Sally said the calendars had been well received and it was hoped they would all be sold.
“I sold a box of 100 myself at the last Cranbourne race meeting and it was only a midweek crowd, so that was encouraging,” she said.
“Hopefully, we can sell enough to need a second printing.”
The calendars cost $19.95 (plus $2 postage and handling) and are available by calling 1300 139 401 or via email to cfcc@racingvictoria.net.au.
