LYNDHURST Secondary College’s VCAL students donated 350 cans of food to the Salvation Army and more than $2000 to Camp Quality in a successful fundraising campaign recently.
The 65 Year 11 and 12 students, who combine work experience with study, also painted murals for White Lion Juvenile Justice Centre and donated to the Lort Smith Animal Hospital.
Year 11 student Shaun Dekkers said the effort culminated in a one-night city camp.
“All the students stayed in the city and then spent a day with the charities we donated to,” he said. “We had aimed to raise $1000 and ended up collecting $2185. It was a great result.”
In the lead-up to the camp, students raised money by shaving hair from the heads of teachers and swapping fairy floss for canned food. Lyndhurst teacher Jeff McMillan congratulated the students on their dedication.
“They organised most of the activities and were responsible for money handling,” he said. “It was great to go into Melbourne and present Camp Quality with a cheque for $2185.”
