THE Cranbourne Lions Club has inducted its first woman president.
Diane Barker was the first woman to join the club in 2002 and since then many other women have also joined.
At the club’s recent changeover ceremony, Mrs Barker was inducted in front of about 70 guests from community groups at the Blue Hills Country Club.
Mrs Barker said she looked forward to representing the club.
“It is an honour and I am very proud to be the first female president of our club,” she said.
In her address at the changeover, she highlighted the importance of working for the community and supporting the local people, especially those in needy situations.
“The Lions Club of Cranbourne not only supports the community of Cranbourne, it extends into district and international projects when the needs arise,” Mrs Barker said.
“I look forward to our club continuing to be active in our community, as it has been for the past 34 years,” president Diane said.
Also on the night, Andrew McMahon and Ron Vosper were presented with life membership of Lions Clubs International medals.
Both club members have over 20 years’ Lions service each and have been active in the community.
The Lions Club of Cranbourne was charted in 1972 and 31 men have held the presidency in that time.
Mrs Barker encouraged all people over the age of 18 who were interested in helping the community to attend a Lions Club meeting.
