ON stage they have to support each other, but for members of a Casey theatre company the bonds are even stronger out of the spotlight.
That togetherness will never be more evident than tomorrow (Friday) when the BATS Theatre Company celebrate the life of Narelle Davies – a former member who lost her fight with breast cancer at the age of 39 last week.
The evening, dubbed Girls’ Night In, is being run in conjunction with The Cancer Council of Australia and will see females from BATS and the wider Casey community come together to raise money for cancer research.
Women are encouraged to come dressed in pink pyjamas or another pink outfit and enjoy a Grease sing-a-long movie night.
BATS vice-president Susan Bergman said the wider Casey community was pulling together in support of the Davies family and breast cancer research.
“Narelle acted in our Julius Caesar production last year and this night is a way of acknowledging her and at the same time raising money for breast cancer research,” Ms Bergman said.
Hundreds of other similar Girls’ Night In events will take place throughout the country over the next couple of weeks in the hope of raising $1.6 million.
“The idea behind the night is that, rather than spending the night out on the town, we donate the money we would have spend on a night out to The Cancer Council, while at the same time enjoying a fantastic night with our girlfriends,” Ms Bergman said.
The fun is set to start at 7.30pm at the Cranbourne Community Theatre in Brunt Street, Cranbourne.
People are asked to bring their own champagne glass and snacks, with supper to be provided after the movie.
