Teachers back at old school

By Alison Noonan
SCHOOL spirit runs deep at Cranbourne Secondary College — so much that past students are banging down the classroom doors to come back.
Nine former students have this year returned to the school to take on a new role as teachers.
Teacher Jan McAleese said the college was proud to welcome back its hoard of ex students as staff, a reflection of the deep-seated camaraderie between teachers and pupils.
Ms McAleese, a teacher at the school for 30 years, said it was great to see familiar faces return to their roots, despite it making her feel a little old.
“It must say something good about the school for them to want to come back,” she said.
“Our staff have always been very accommodating. The camaraderie is one of the best things about working here.”
SOSE/Food Technology teacher Marnie Hopkins said the move from student to teacher was an easy transition.
“When I did my teaching rounds at the college everyone was friendly, open and welcoming,” she said.
SOSE/English teacher Ben Bruin said it was an honour to now be teaching beside his former mentors.
“I wanted to be able to inspire my students with the same enthusiasm that so many of my past teachers displayed,” he said.
